She was one of the best gymnasts and dancers that I had ever seen. She was also a gymnastic coach.
Gina graduated from Blair High School in 1971. She went on to Pasadena City College and from there she worked for Hanna-Barbera as a cartoonist.
She was an artist and liked painting eagles and colorful flowers.
She painted her own Christmas cards and that was her trademark.
She adored Starbucks coffee along with her ever present Parliament cigarettes. She NEVER had any intention of giving up her beloved cigarettes. You could lecture her 'till the cows came home on the health risks of smoking; and you would just be spinning your wheels here. She would even smoke while eating her meals.
She loved Elvis, the Beatles, and especially Paul McCartney!
One of her favorite movies was "Doctor Zhivago" and she and I swooned over Omar Sharif.
She took the death of Princess Diana, Sonny Bono and Ronald Reagan very hard and we both sat spellbound watching their elaborate funerals.
Gina and I lived together when the Golden Girls was first on TV.
Gina would have been sad about the passing of Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty; the Golden Girls reminded Gina of her beloved late mother, Gwen. Gina thought the actress Doris Roberts, who played on "Everyone Loves Raymond" was the spitting image of her mom, Gwen. I always thought the mom on "The Nanny" was the spitting image of Gina's mom. Both were flashy and glamourous "healthy" blondes.
She also would have been shocked over Michael Jackson's passing as she got to see him in person in 1995 when she worked at Universal Walkway at the Martin Lawrence Art Gallery and he was on a shopping spree with his entourage.
Gina had a terrific vocabulary and always saw the lighter side of life.
She was also a wonderful saleswoman. Her favorite color was light blue and she enjoyed all holidays especially the Fourth of July and Halloween.
She was spiritual, was hooked on watching (TBN) Trinity Broadcast Network.
One of the most beautiful things about Gina was that she was very un-materialistic.
Gina was all about "love" and being in "LOVE."
Gina did not like to be alone. If she didn't have the strong need to never be alone, she would probably still be with us today as she made some poor choices in men throughout her short life.
I could always confide in Gina and I find myself wanting to pick up the phone and talk to her and, of course, I can't anymore. It hits me hard when I wake up every morning and realize she is gone.
Cause of death: Cerebral Hemorrhage
She had untreated and unchecked high blood pressure.
Possibly diabetes and high cholesterol, too.
Her quick passing was a total shock but I had the honor of being with Gina when she crossed over on Saturday, April 5th, 2008 at 12:03 PM.
She is irreplaceable and my life will never be the same without her.
