Frederick Neil "Fred" Cole was born in Port Huron, MI, and died in Frostproof, FL. Cause of death was acute myelitis. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer, and served aboard the USS Caiman from 1962 to 1967. In 1970 Fred suffered a devastating automobile accident that ended his naval career, claimed his left leg, and left him wheelchair bound. Despite his handicap Fred enjoyed tinkering in his work shop and left lasting memories for many family members in the form of beautifully handcrafted cutting boards, and ink pens which were lovingly turned on his lathe and polished and assembled by his hands. He is affectionately remembered and survived by 3 children, Renae, Michele, and Fred, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and 4 brothers, John, Larry, Gary, and Kelly.

Fred's entire family, including his own children, were very cruelly and heartlessly denied any knowledge of his illness and impending death. They were denied the opportunity to share time with him, say goodbye before his passing, and denied any details about his death. The day Fred died his family was informed through a one minute "courtesy call" from a merciless coward who boldly and coldly recited a scripted one sentence message stating only that he had died and no other details would be offered. They were not informed of any services, nor informed of his final resting place, and ultimately denied the opportunity to properly celebrate his life and mourn his passing -- one final act of incredible cruelty meted out by someone whose sole purpose in life was to continually alienate Fred's family who loved him so much. The whereabouts of Fred's remains are unknown to his family, but his spirit is alive and well with those who truly loved him unconditionally, with no drama, no pretense, and no strings attached. Despite the circumstances surrounding Fred's death, and the cruel and heartless way his loving family was treated afterward, he is remembered with smiles and laughter when long forgotten memories are shared around all of our dinner tables. Fred was a good man and he will live forever in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his brothers.

God speed, Fred! Freedom is finally yours! You're walking, running, laughing, loving, and finally doing things YOUR way as you always wanted, no longer shackled to the miserable ball and chain who bound you in your earthly existence, ruled your every waking moment, and who, single-handedly, created so much turmoil within the family that it was impossible for your entire family to peacefully coexist without conflict and drama. We'll all see you on the other side, where the happiness you deserved in life will shower down upon you for all of eternity. A place where drama does not exist, and the evil incarnate you endured for so many years will be erased from our collective memories and be banished to the depths of hell, never to be seen, thought of, or spoken about again.

Your Heaven, Fred...yours, and yours alone...
