Robert is my cousin - once removed.
Robert was a brilliant young man, who had just joined the Army. Shortly after, it was discovered that he was ill and he was Honorably Discharged.
Robert never married and later in life, after the death of his parents and sister, he had mental health problems and was swindled out of his life savings.
He was living in a Rooming house when he died. He was cremated and his ashes were interned with his Parents.
At the service, an Army honor guard was present and saluted as the urn was carried to the grave site. A very nice lady pastor who fills the pulpit for the Lutheran Church read the scripture and placed a handful of earth on the urn. The honor guard folded the flag and it was presented to a family member. A rifle squad from the local VFW fired the 21-gun salute and taps was played.
