Cpl John Louis Adams, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Selma, NC.

Cpl John Louis Adams was a member of the Army Selective Service and a Draftee, CPL Adams served our country until July 11th, 1968 in Quang Tin, South Vietnam. He was 21 years old and he was not married. It was reported that John died from an undetermined explosion. His body was recovered. CPL Adams is on panel 52W, line 013 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year.

My parents were from the same High School as John. You are not forgotten these many years later. This young man was a year younger than my mother. They went to the same HS in Selma NC. My Mom showed me his picture in the HS annual. He was much too young to die. In this era of Iraqi War Veterans I think it it is appropriate to remember those many who years before gave a sacrifice that that is equal to the the sacrifices being given today almost 30 yrs ago. God bless you John Adams and your family. Mark Rose, 2075 Twin Acres Rd, Clayton, NC 27520, [email protected].

I knew his parents: His Mother Never Forgot You. I NEVER KNEW JOHN BUT I KNEW HIS PARENTS, MR. & MRS. LOUIS ADAMS. HIS FATHER WAS A LIFE LONG PASTOR. REV. ADAMS WIFE TAUGHT MY FATHER IN SUNDAY SCHOOL IN BRANCHVILLE, S.C. MY FATHER'S FAMILY THOUGHT SO MUCH OF THE REV. ADAMS AND THEIR SON THEY BECAME LIFE LONG FRIENDS. I USED TO SPEND WEEKENDS WITH THEM DURING MY SUMMER VACATIONS WHEN THEY LIVED IN LAURENS, S.C. MRS.ADAMS WOULD OFTEN TALK ABOUT HER SON AND HIS DEATH, SHE TOLD ME THAT HE WAS BURIED IN NORTH CAROLINA ON A MOUNTAIN. SHE SAID THAT THEY HAD TO DYNAMITE WHERE HE WAS TO BE LAID TO REST. MRS. ADAMS SAID THAT SHE OFTEN HAD DREAMS ABOUT THE VEITCONG WHO KILLED JOHN, SHE SAID THAT HE SAID IN THE DREAM THAT HE WAS DYING AND WANTED TO ASK HER FORGIVENESS FOR KILLING HER SON. SHE SAID AFTER THAT DREAM SHE GOT DOWN ON HER KNEES THE NEXT DAY AND PRAYED THAT THE MAN WHO KILLED HER SON WOULD KNOW THAT SHE HAD FORGIVEN HIM. JOHN'S PARENTS ARE DEAD NOW AND I'M SURE THAT THEY ARE ALL NOW TOGETHER IN HEAVEN. Denise Metts, Rowesville S.C. 29133.

He was my first cousin. I will always miss my old playmate. John Louis Adams was the son of Zebulon Adams and Elizabeth Barbour Adams of Selma, NC. They were tobacco farmers who lived in rural Johnston County near Selma, NC. John and I grew up together. At home he was known as "JL". He liked to sing and his very favorite song was, "Far Away Places." I had just completed my tour of duty in 1968 and was getting ready to get married when I heard that J.L. had been killed in action. He was my favorite cousin and I loved him a lot. I will never forget him. I have told my children many stories about JL. Allan Jollie

He served with Bravo Troop, 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 11th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division, USARV.

He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, The Good Conduct Medal and The Air Medal with Multiple Oak Leaf Clusters.
