Apple, John
John Apple, aged about 75, who lived alone in a small house at Havana, 25 miles west of here on Highway 10, was burned to death at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. The fire, of undetermined orgin, also destroyed the house and furnishing. Fireman from Danville, who removed the charred body from the ruins, said apparently the aged man had attempted to leap from bed when the flames finally awoke him, but he was overcome and could only fall back on the floor, where he perished in the fire. Havana residents said the man's wife also resided in Havana, but that they had been estranged for some time. Neighbors were awakened by the screams of the dying man and the flames, but there was no hope of extinguishing the roaring fire. Although the source of the fire was not known, neighbors speculated that it may have caught from a wood stove.

The survivors include in addition to the widow, two sons, Jimmy, of the army; Joe, of Havana; four brothers, Sam, Wilburn and Ed, of Dardanelle; Charles, of Marlow, Okla.; and two sisters, Mrs. Alice Taylor, Marlow, Okla., and Mrs. Julia Watkins, of Belleville.

The body was taken to Cornwell Funeral Home in Danville and funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon. (WWW.YellCountyObits.org,His obituary was published 25 Nov 1948, Dardanelle, Yell County, Arkansas
