Eliza Middleton was born March 2, 1815 in Erie County, Pennsylvania to David Middleton and Phoebe Carroll. Eliza married Dena Drake, a widower, in 1835 and they had two children: Jane and Emily. After the death of her husband Dena in 1861, Eliza married a veterinarian named Dr. Chaffee. She lived to be eighty two years old and died in 1897. She was buried in the Drake Cemetery next to her first husband.
