Edgar was the son of the late William Henry Brown and Mollie Florence (Rich) Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mary E. Brown; 10 brothers, Clura Paul Brown, Willie Hugh Brown, Cecil W. Brown, Carl Brown, Palo Brown, Truman Brown, Rile Brown, Ather Brown, Oscar Brown, and Clifford Brown; and a sister, Orangie Alice Brown.

Survivors include 3 sons, Raymond Brown, Leonard Brown, and James Brown; 2 daughters, Dorothy Hewitt and Reba DeJesus; and 3 sisters, Rose Bulah Smith, Josie Mae Carmack, and Marion Francis; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
