Hugh and his younger brother John (who had served in the Missouri 1st Cavalry and lost an arm during the siege of Vicksburg) both moved to Texas after the war, and their father joined them about 1869 after their mother's death. Hugh remained in Sherman and raised his family there. He died in 1914.
