Enlisted as Private on March 11, 1862 for 3 years or "the war". Promoted to 3rd Lieutenant in September, 1862 and to 2nd Lieutenant on January 29, 1863. He was sick in a hospital during August and September, 1863. He received a 120 Day leave in November, 1863 to attend to his widowed mother who was "entirely dependent on me for a support". He married Mary C. Boyd in 1857. They had children and in 1910 she applied for a Confederate Widow's Pension from the State of Mississippi while living with her son in Corinth, Mississippi.
