The old companions of Lieut. Wm. H. Babcock, formerly of Co. K., 8th Kansas, will regret to hear of his death, from cholera, at Rosedale, Bolivar Co., Miss., after a sickness of only ten hours. This sad intelligence is communicated in a letter we publish elsewhere from one of the members of the Regiment. A brave soldier, a competent, energetic officer who did his duty always faithfully and well; a kind and genial companion and a warm hearted, earnest, generous gentleman has gone to his long rest. The bullets of a dozen battle fields had passed him harmless by; the privations and exposures of camp and march had failed to break down the vigorous constitution; he returned to the home and friends he had left at the call of his country only to be stricken down, while on a visit to the South, by cholera.
