Minden Police K-9 officer Kash, a dual-purpose – bite and narcotics German Shepherd has been laid to rest. Memorial services for Kash were held at 10am Monday October 6, 2014 at the Minden Police Department, Minden, Louisiana, where interment followed. He died as a result of a sudden illness. Kash joined the department in 2008 and was assigned to Officer First Class Danny ‘Bo’ Turner. “He was a unique gentle dog. My kids loved him. He was part of my family,” Turner said. The Minden Police Department adopted Kash from Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio September 2008. Turner has been the dog’s only handler since that transition. “It is already different without my partner at my side,” Turner said Monday in reference to his first day back on duty since Kash’s death. “I keep looking back for him while heading out to work and he is not there. He is already being missed.” Kash has been instrumental in assisting the US Marshall’s Fugitive Task Force, Louisiana State Police and other agencies. Over the years Kash has assisted in at least five heavy drug seizures including the seizure of 8.8 kilograms of cocaine and the seizure of more than 100 pounds of marijuana. During the memorial service the police department extended special thanks to Dr. Alan Cameron; Dr. Foster Lott, Dr. Dare Lott and staff; Rose-Neath Funeral Home; Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center; Mike Holoman; Reek’s Floral; Minden High School’s ROTC; Wal-Mart; and Subway.
