Professor at the Technical University, mathematician, building engineer, professor of engineering mechanics. Before he started teaching, he worked at the Bogenhausen Observatory under Johann von Lamont. He taught at the Gymnasium and later founded the professorship for mechanics and the state materials testing and certification department. The Bauschinger effect in materials science is named after him. He was also the father of astronomer Julius Bauschinger (1860–1934).
