CONNEAUT — Julia I. Petro, age 100, of Conneaut, Ohio, died Friday afternoon, Feb. 18, 2011, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home in Kingsville, Ohio.

She was born Sept. 24, 1910, in Leechburg, Pa., the daughter of John and Rosalie (Osso) Simon.

Prior to moving to Conneaut in 1932, she was employed in a sewing factory in Cleveland, Ohio and later in Conneaut was employed at the Astatic Corp. for a time.

She was a member of First Assembly of God in Conneaut and was a Prayer Warrior and a member of several prayer groups. Mrs. Petro was a much sought after babysitter and loved being with her family. She also enjoyed gardening and cooking.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce (Earle) DeWalt of Conneaut, Ohio and Margaret (Earl) Haima of Hamburg, N.Y.; her brother, John S. Simon of Fayetteville, Ga.; five grandchildren, Lorraine (Joseph) Belotte, Lynnette (John) Boller, Scott Haima, Renae (Frank) Picard and Michael (Jodee) DeWalt; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Steve J. Petro in 1981; sister, Grace Petro; brother, William Simon; and a grandson, Rev. Brian Haima.

Funeral Service will be 3 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22nd, at MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio, with the Rev. George Fink, pastor of First Assembly of God, officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of Service, Tuesday, at the Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Music Ministry of First Assembly of God. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
