**Chicago Sun-Times (IL) - January 14, 1987
Deceased Name: Tillie Abrahamson, 108 'never smoked or drank'
Tillie Abrahamson, a former Chicagoan, died Monday at age 108 in Van Nuys, Calif.

She was a guest on Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show" for her 103rd and 104th birthdays, and told him, "I'm three years younger than the telephone."

When Carson asked her to what she attributed her long life, she said, "I never smoked (or) drank and I never wore pants."

At the time, she was the oldest person ever on Carson's program.

When she was 7, she and her family escaped from Russia and persecution by concealing themselves in a hay wagon.

Mrs. Abrahamson was nicknamed "the female Bernard Baruch" because of her sagacity and wit. She was widowed at 46, and raised four children. Her husband, Abraham, was a women's clothing manufacturer.

When Mrs. Abrahamson was 80, she journeyed alone to Israel. About 16 years ago, she left Chicago for California. She maintained her own apartment there until she was 98. Then she moved into a retirement hotel. When she was 105, she entered a nursing home.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow in B'nai B'rith Cemetery, 6600 W. Addison.
