His debut was in 1860, directed by Alessandro Blasetti, but his first important role was in The Siege of the Alcazar, a 1940 italian war film directed by Augusto Genina. Checchi is also remembered for A Yank in Rome (1946), by Luigi Zampa, and A Slice of Life (1952). He won the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists Award for best supporting actor for his performance in the film Parola di ladro (1957). Andrea Checchi was also an accomplished painter and had exhibitions of his works held.
