Jemmy Wood was known as the Gloucester Miser,said to have been the richest man in the King's dominion,with a fortune of £900,000. Commemorated with a blue plaque at the site of his bank in Gloucester, which suggests that he was the inspiration for Charles Dickens's character Scrooge.
