Donald Willis Ramsey was born on 16 July 1921 in Portland, Cumberland County, Maine. Donald joined the United States Marine Corps on 15 October 1942. He enlisted as a Private and his "Boot Camp" was conducted in the Tenth Recruit Battalion, Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. PFC Donald Willis Ramsey was Killed-in-Action on 17 June 1944, on the island of Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands, during the "Battle of Saipan", a battle of the Pacific Campaign of World War II (June 15 to July 9, 1944).
Donald's parents were John W. Ramsey and Addie P. (Sargent) Ramsey of Portland, Maine. John Ramsey was born in Cambridgeport, Maine. Addie Sargent was born in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Donald's siblings are as follows: William B., Ida L., John W., Clayton W., Charles F., and Kenneth M.
