A German shepherd K-9 with the Missouri State Highway Patrol died in the line of duty. The body of patrol K-9 Reed, a 5 year veteran with the patrol, was recovered from the swollen Missouri river. The German shepherd had been working the area with his handler, Trooper Frederick F. Guthrie Jr., when the pair were swept away by flood waters. K-9 Reed's body was discovered in swift moving waters near Trooper Guthrie's parked truck and boat. Trooper Guthrie is presumed drowned, but his body has not been found.
