Mildred Jones Evans was born May 8, 1912 and passed from this life on Jan 29, 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Carroll Freeman Evans. She is survived by one son Carroll Duane Evans and wife Cecilia, of Henderson. Three grandsons: Kevin and wife Judy, of Lone Star; Dr. Keith Evans and wife Cyndi, of Beaumont and Kyle and wife Valarie, of Dallas. Four great grandchildren: Erin and Amanda of Dallas, and Blake and Clay of Lone Star.

Mrs. Evans was a retired school teacher of 35 years. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Sam Houston State University at Huntsville, Texas and her Master's Degree from the University of Greeley, Colorado. She taught first grade for many years at London Elementary School.

During the summer months of her teaching, she was fortunate to travel extensively, both in the states and abroad.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Laneville and taught the Ruth adult Women's Sunday School class for many years. At First Baptist church in Henderson, she and her husband were members of the Ruth Bible Class. She has been a member and past president of Phi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, (a society that further educates and honors women teachers) since 1948.

When she retired from teaching she joined the Redbud Garden Club, the Henderson Women's Forum, Rusk County Retired Teachers, and Henderson Art League. Her hobby of oil painting has produced many pictures for both family and friends, but her greatest joy and satisfaction has come from volunteering at the Henderson memorial Hospital.
