My Grand Uncle Basil 'Corbett' Dodd was the 11th of 12 children - the 6th of 7 sons - born to my great grandparents, John Henry Dodd and Mary Caroline Bragg, on Saturday, 2 Feb 1907, in Jumping Branch, Mercer County, WV.

Before his 4th birthday, late in 1910 or early 1911, just over a year after his mother's death, his father moved all of the family except for the eldest brothers and his baby brother, John Henry, Jr, to the Winter Park, FL area where his older siblings and father helped to charter the First Baptist Church of Winter Park.

In about 1925, Grand Uncle Corbett married (for the 1st time - he was about 18 years old at the time) Leonora Grace McDonnell by whom he had three daughters: Mary Martha, Virginia Louise and Hessie Irene Dodd; as well as a son, James Corbett, who unfortunately died on what would have been his 26th day of life in early 1930.

Basil Corbett Dodd and Leonora Grace McDonnell were divorced in 1932 in Seminole County, FL, one year after the birth of their last child and daughter. Grand Uncle Corbett was 25 years old at the time.

Grand Uncle Corbett married a 2nd time on Friday, 12 Oct 1934, in Polk County, FL when he was 27. It was both his and Alma Thelma Howard Bamberger's 2nd marriages.

In 1952, at the age of 45, Corbett and Alma were divorced in Brevard County, FL.

Then, at the age of 50, Grand Uncle Corbett went back to WV and married (for the 3rd and final time) Mary Edna Miller - it was her 1st marriage - on Saturday, 26 Oct 1957, in Lowell, Summers County, WV.

Grand Uncle Corbett and Grand Aunt Mary would have two children together: Stella Margaret and Basil Corbett Dodd, II.

Grand Uncle Corbett was well known in Seminole County, FL because he served for a few years as a county commissioner in addition to running a dairy farm back when the area he lived in was known as Gabriella, FL. To his extended Dodd family members in the area he was like the patriarch of the family, as he held annual family reunions on his property just outside of his house on Garden Lake on the Sunday between Christmas and New Year's Day every year as I was growing up.

We lost Grand Uncle Corbett on Thursday, 28 Oct 1982. He was 75 years old at the time.
