ADDISON COWLING FUNERAL IS HELD AT GRAYVILLE. Prominent Man of Edwards County Is Laid to Rest. Addison Cowling, one of Edwards county's wealthiest residents, passed away at the home of his son, Frank, southeast of Albion last Wednesday morning. Death followed a second paralytic stroke, his first, from which he had never recovered completely, having occurred on March 15.

OBITUARY - Addison Cowling was born in Edwards county, Illinois, December 2, 1849, and died at the home of his son, Frank. L. Cowling, in Edwards county on April 25, 1928. His age was 78 years, 4 months, and 23 days.

Mr. Cowling was the youngest and the last surviving member of eleven children, born to John and Mary Coad Cowling, who came from Cornwall, Lincolnshire, England, to Edwards county where they settled on a tract of land purchased from the government southeast of Albion. This farm was the place of Mr. Cowling's birth and here in early life he began farming and raising stock. He continued to make his farm his home until he was stricken, on March the fifteenth. He was a man of great industry, and a far-sighted and aggressive businessman. For years he was one of the leading stock shippers of the county, and was also a director of the First National bank of Grayville for many years.

On December 28, 1871, Mr. Cowling was married to Miss Ann Spencer, and to this union were born eight children, Stella Pearl and Jesse Clarence, died in infancy and Delbert February 2, 1922. Mrs. Cowling passed away on December 9, 1901.

He is survived by five children: Frank and Claude of Edwards county; Ross of this city, Harry of Punta Gorda, Fla and one daughter, Mrs. Louis Fieber of Grayville. There are nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Grayville in charge of Rev. Moreland of the Baptist church, assisted by Reverend S. A. Matthews, pastor of the M. E. church.

A large gathering of friends assembled at the services to pay their last respects to one who had spent his entire life among them.

The flower bearers were: Mrs. Addison Cowling, Wilma Ankenbrandt, Floyd Proctor. Mrs. Flossie Proctor, Mrs. Gladys Johnson, Marjorie Osman, Laura Blood and Mrs. Lena Bass.
