Rev. Abraham Obediah HAMMER Sr. is the youngest of seven children born to his immigrant parents Johannes John HAMMER of Germany and Jane STANFIELD of England.

Soon after his migration travels to colonial Orange County (now Snow Camp, Alamance County), North Carolina he married Rachel MEETING. Most likely he had met Rachel on the long wagon trip from Philadelphia while traveling on the Great Wagon Road. So on 29 Dec 1755 they were married in a Quaker ceremony in the Cane Creek Settlement, Snow Camp Meeting House, Colonial Orange (now Alamance) County, North Carolina.
