In loving memory of Dylan Christopher Jack Hockley, a radiant spirit and a cherished butterfly who left an indelible mark in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.

Born in Winchester, England on March 8, 2006, to proud parents Ian Thomas and Nicole Marie (Moretti) Hockley, Dylan moved to Sandy Hook, Connecticut at a very young age. He brought with him a vivacious energy, a radiant smile, and a love for life that was infectious. With his captivating blue eyes and dimples, accompanied by his mischievous grin, he was the sun that warmed his home, a beacon of joy to his family.

His was a life marked by the simplicity of childlike pleasures: the excitement of video games, the joy of jumping on trampolines, the comfort of a good movie, and the delight of munching on his favorite garlic bread.

Despite his Autism, Dylan soared high, flapping his arms in unbridled joy, like a beautiful butterfly reaching for the skies. His innocent enthusiasm for life, the way he lit up every room he entered, was a testament to the human spirit's resilience and inherent joyfulness.

Yet, it is with profound sorrow that we recall the tragic events of December 14, 2012, at Sandy Hook Elementary School, where Dylan, along with his friends, classmates and teachers, had their innocent lives cut short. This tragic event, one of the worst school shootings in history, has left a void that can never be filled.

Dylan is survived by his parents, his older brother Jake Alexander Hockley, his maternal grandparents Henry and Theresa (Gobidas) Moretti, his paternal grandparents Thomas and Ivy (Dawn) Hockley, and his uncles Kevin Hockley and Gary Hockley.

Though his physical presence is no longer with us, Dylan's spirit lives on in the hearts of his family, friends and those whose lives he touched. His legacy is one of love, joy, and a unique zest for life. His mother, Nicole Hockley, has channeled her grief into a powerful force for change as the co-founder and CEO of Sandy Hook Promise.

A testament to the enduring strength of the human spirit, Nicole seeks to transform the anguish and despair borne of a heartbreaking tragedy into a force for good. Through her work, she aims to prevent similar tragedies from befalling other families, ensuring that Dylan's life and those of his classmates and teachers weren't lost in vain.

We remember Dylan not for the manner in which he departed from us, but for the joy, love, and laughter he brought into our lives. His spirit, like that of a beautiful butterfly, remains a beacon of hope and promise. Through his family's continued work in promoting safety and preventing violence in our schools, his memory serves as a powerful reminder of the love that binds us all.

His parents remember him fondly as the loving son who "loved to cuddle, play tag every morning at the bus stop with our neighbors, bounce on the trampoline, play computer games, watch movies, the color purple, seeing the moon and eating his favorite foods, especially chocolate." He adored his big brother Jake, whom he saw as his best friend and role model.

Indeed, we all loved Dylan, a young life that shone so brightly and was extinguished far too soon. But even in the darkest night, the stars continue to shine, and Dylan's memory, his spirit, will forever be our guiding light, a testament to love, joy, and the strength of the human spirit. Rest in peace, Dylan. May your spirit continue to soar high, our beautiful butterfly.
