Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a First Lieutenant in the Union Army. He was killed in action. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Sergeant in Company G, 8th Illinois Cavalry for action in June 1862 at Chickahominy and Ashland, Virginia. His citation reads "Gallantry in action."
