William F. "Sonny" Black, 65, Martinsburg RR 2, passed away yearly Wednesday morning at Select Specialty Hospital, Johnstown, after a long and courageous battle with circulatory problems.

He was born in Taylor Township, son of the late William B. and Daisy (Feathers) Black. He married Barbara E. Freidenbloom May 23,1970, in West Loop.

Surviving are his wife; a son, John Jacob Black of Gaithersburg, Md.; a brother, Donald "PeeWee" of Duncansville; and three sisters: Joanne Edmiston of Altoona, Donna Piper of Duncansville and Mary "Lidy" Smith of Altoona. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Christina.

Mr. Black was a former member of Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He retired as a knitter from Warnaco, Altoona, in 1990 after 3.1 years of service. He then retired from the Morrisons Cove Home, Martinsburg, in 2002 after 11 years of service.

Mr. Black was a 1959 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School.

He enjoyed sitting on his front porch and watching John Wayne movies.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at John C. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Elsie Gonsman and Pastor Earl Herr officiating.
Interment will be held at Hoisinger Cemetery, rural Roaring Spring.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to St.
Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
