David Lee Shiffler, 72, Hollidaysburg, died Friday, July 25, 2014, at his residence.

He was born December 22, 1941, in Altoona, son of the late David W. and Alma (Imler) Shiffler. He married Kathleen J. Mauro on January 11, 1964, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Duncansville.

Surviving are his wife, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage; two daughters: Deneen Albright and Janathyn Crossman; two beautiful granddaughters: Nicole and Rachel Crossman; two sisters-in-law: Darla (Terry) Bell and Betsy Shiffler; and five brothers-in-law: John (Jean), David (Carolyn), Mark (Gail), Craig (Kelly) and Rick (Karen) Mauro.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Steve.

David was a 1959 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. Having served 39 years with the Hollidaysburg Police Department, he proudly retired as chief of police in December 2003. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, and a lifetime member of the Phoenix Volunteer Fire Company, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 51, Central Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, Heidelberg Country Club and Central District Volunteer Firemen's Association.

David enjoyed fishing, being outdoors and spending time with his family.

Friends will be received from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a fireman's memorial service will be held at 6:45 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, by Father Anthony J. Legarski. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CurePSP (progressive supranuclear palsy), 30 E. Padonia Road, Suite 201, Timonium, MD 21093, or the Phoenix Volunteer Fire Company.
