In Loving Memory of my Father, Jeremiah Jacob Sharum Jr., he was born on June 14, 1929, in Clinton, Custer Co, OK., to Jeremiah Jacob Sharum Sr. and Lilla Etta (Wilds) Sharum. He was the sixth of eight children born to them.

Jerry, married Athena May Crume in Elkhart IN., on Sept. 26, 1952. It was there that their two sons, Craig Allen and Ralph Edward were born. In March of 1957, they moved to San Diego Co., CA. Where their four daughters were born.

Jerry was well known through out San Diego County for his towing services "Jerry's Tow". Jerry would help any one who needed a tow or just needed his help, know matter where they were. And sometimes if they didn't have the money to pay. He would just say, give me gas money to cover the tow. "That's just who he was".

Jerry lost his father when he was not quit eleven years old. And at the age of seventeen and a half, he enter the ARMY, where he would served from "JAN. 25, 1947 through NOV. 2, 1949, in the 31st. Inf. 7th Div. as Pvt. in SOULE, KOREA". He left the Army to come home and help his mother with the younger siblings, after a fire destroyed their home.

On May 16, 1966 he lost his left leg due to an auto accident. And it was on Dec. 24, 1979, when he found out that he had diabetes. But none of this slowed Jerry down. It was Cardiac Arrest and Metastatic Cancer that took him "HOME.

My father never considered himself handicap in anyway. I remember when I was a little girl, my father tought my sister and I how to swim across the bay. I even road on the tow truck as I got older to help him with his tow jobs. He rode a motorcycle, drove a stickshift and when it was time to redue the roofing on our home, he would hop up the latter and we would bring the roofing up to him. And alot of the time when he would go on a tow job, sometimes to L.A. Calif. Which was about 100 miles from our home and forget his crutches. He would call home to see if he had left them behind, sure enough he did. I remember when my oldest son was about a year old. He would walk around and around his grandpa's leg with a smile looking for the other one. And his grandpa would just look down at him and smile. And when children would ask my father where is your leg? He would look at them with a smile and say it's at home in the closet, I got tired of it so I put it in the closet. I believe my father was a one of a kind. I miss him more and more as the days goes by. I wish I could have one more hug, one kiss, one more I love you and to hear his voice one last time.

~ "He would want those who knew him to remember him in this way." ~

TO THOSE I LOVE & THOSE WHO LOVE ME

To Those I Love And Those Who Love Me, When I am gone, release me, Let me go. I have so many things to see and do. You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears. But be happy that we had so many years. I give to you all of my love. You can only guess how much you gave to me in happiness. I thank you all for the Love you each have shown. But now it's time I traveled on alone. So grieve a while for me if grieve you must. Then let your grief be comforted by trust. It's only for awhile that we must part. So, bless the memories within your heart. I won't be far away, for life goes on. So, if you need me, call and I will come. And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear. All of my love around you soft and clear. And then, when you must come this way, "Alone" I will great you with a smile. and "Welcome You Home"

This poem was read at "Jerry's funeral by his daughter Athena.

He never looks for praises
He's never one to boast
He just goes on quietly working
For those he loves the most
His dreams are seldom spoken
His wants are very few
And most of the time his worries
Will go unspoken too
He's there...A firm foundation
Through all our storms of life
A sturdy hand to hold to
In times of stress and strife
A true friend we can turn to
When times are good or bad
One of our Greatest Blessing,
The man that we call Dad

DAD ~~

The older I get, the more I realize what an important influence you've been in my life, I see all the ways you've been there for me, the way you've guided my decisions while encouraging me to stand on my own, the way you've offered suggestions and opinions while accepting me as I am, the way you've supported my endeavors while allowing me the freedom to experience the world for myself. You never let me down, Dad, and I want you to know I appreciate it... So, for all the times I've left it unsaid, Dad, I want to thank you now for the understanding the caring, and the love you've shown in so many special ways.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 2, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in The Little Chapel of the Roses at 3838 Bonita Road in Bonita, CA. Officiating the services will be Pastor Peter Shipley. Interment will be at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, at 3838 Bonita Road.

THE DAY YOU LEFT ME

The moment that you died
my heart was torn in two,
one side filled with heartache
the other died with you.

I often lie awake at night,
when the world is fast asleep, and
take a walk down memory lane,
With tears upon my cheeks.

Remembering you is easy,
I do it everyday,
but missing you is heartache
that never goes away.

I hold you tightly within my heart
and there you will remain,
until the joyous day arrives,
That we will meet again.

GOD ONLY TAKES THE BEST

I cried when you
passed away. I still cry today.
Although I Loved you dearly, I
couldn't make you stay. A golden
heart stopped beating, hard working
hands at rest. God broke my heart to
prove to me that he only takes the best.
