He was deployed with 3 Rifles Battle Group as part of the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.
Rfn Aldridge died as a result of an explosion while on foot patrol near Sangin, in central Helmand Province. His last words to the medic treating him at the scene were to "tell his mother that he loved her".
Aged 19, he was born and lived in Croydon, Surrey until 2006 when his family moved to Folkestone, Kent. He attended the Army Foundation College in 2006 and served with the battalion for nearly two years. He was on his first tour of duty and, after a platoon mate was killed, he volunteered to be the section lead man tasked with finding improvised explosive devices. He was described as a natural leader with a bright future in the army. Known for his fitness, he especially enjoyed rugby, martial arts and mountain biking.
Rfn Aldridge is survived by his parents Caroline and Andrew, his brother Matthew, his girlfriend Jem Dickinson, other relatives and friends.
Funeral with full military honours was held on February 11, 2010 at Holy Trinity Church, Sandgate Road, Folkestone.
