Mrs. Erwin passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. She was a graduate of Louisiana State University, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and Phi Beta Kappa. She taught vocal music in the Oakdale Schools for many years. Her service to the Oakdale First United Methodist Church extended into many areas. She was a choir director and later, church organist and a teacher in the church school. She held many offices in the church structure and was an active member of the United Methodist Women's Organization. Her work as planner for the Erwin Memorial Courtyard added a beautiful meditation garden to the church configuration. Mrs. Erwin was also a member of the Executive Board of the Friends of the Oakdale/Elizabeth Library.
Her survivors include three daughters, Anne Erwin Chitty and Jane Erwin Guild, both of New Orleans, and Susan Marguerite Erwin of Dallas; one sister, Lua Pearl Tucker of Jackson, Miss.; three grandsons, Greg and Marc Chitty and George Guild III; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be members of the family.
Mrs. Erwin was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Isaac Erwin; and two sisters, Laverne Cooper Cook and Hazel Cooper.
Friends are asked to call from 6-8 p.m. today at the Ardoin Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Box 366, Oakdale, LA 71463.
