Detectives working on an investigation into a man's death in Ankara 14 years ago have concluded that the man's father, a former Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy, paid TL 150 to have his son killed.

For some time, the Ankara Police Department has been working on unsolved deaths and reopened the case file of Tacettin Ceren, 46, who was stabbed to death after being shot in the head in his house in Ankara's Çankaya district on June 18, 1995.

The fingerprints collected from the house of Tacettin Ceren, the son of Osman Ceren, who served as a CHP deputy between 1973 and 1978, were rechecked in the police department's updated fingerprint database. The police found that one of the fingerprints belonged to Demirhan Ç., 60, who was detained in 2005 on charges of carrying an unlicensed gun. Police detained him on Wednesday in Kýrýkkale. Demirhan Ç. told the police that he has felt pangs of guilt for 14 years.

"His father, Osman Ceren, who is a former deputy, came to the village with his brother, Fahrettin Ceren," he said. "He gave me TL 150.000 and told me, ‘You will kill my son.' Fahrettin and I went to Tacettin's house. We brought alcohol and snacks with us. We chatted for some time, and Tacettin passed out. I fired one shot at his head. His uncle, Fahrettin, stabbed him several times, thinking he might not have died."
