Funeral services for Jesse J. McKeithen, father of Governor McKeithen, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Grayson Methodist church in Grayson. Burial will be in the Welcome Home Cemetery near Grayson.

The governor's 77-year-old father died Tuesday at 11:35 a.m. at Caldwell Hospital at Columbia of a stroke.

An attending physician said McKeithen suffered a "cerebral vascular accident" at 8 a.m. He was rushed to the hospital, but "an extension of the same process" caused his death, the doctor said.

The governor left Baton Rouge by state airplace about 10:30 a.m., but it was not known if he arrived at the hospital before his father died.

Funeral services were scheduled at Grayson Methodist Church in Grayson Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial services will follow at Welcome Home Cemetery near Grayson.

The senior McKeithen was born in Grayson Aug. 25, 1892, and was a life-long resident of Caldwell Parish. He was a career school teacher, contractor and farmer.

He is survived by his widow, the former Agnes Deette Eglin; a sister, Mrs. A. Wells of Grayson; two sons, the governor and Dr. A. E. McKeithen of Jonesboro; two daughters, Mrs. Deette Williams of Baton Rouge and Mrs. JaNette Meredith of Columbia; and 18 grandchildren.
