Mervin Floyd Lewis, Jr., in a recent conversation said to his daughters "I'm 90 years old; I've had a long and happy life and done many things a lot of people have not had the chance to do." Mervin passed away at Troy Center on Wednesday, February 25, following a brief illness. Born in Chillicothe, Ohio, he was the third child of Mervin F. Lewis, Sr. and Edna (Taylor) Lewis. He graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1942.

Mervin was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army's 409th Infantry as an artilleryman; he landed at Marseilles and saw combat in France, Germany, and Austria as part of the liberation of Europe leading up to VE Day. Following his service, he studied at Ohio State University; he later earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sinclair Community College in Dayton and became a licensed Professional Engineer.

While both were working on nuclear projects in Oak Ridge, Tennessee in the early 1950s, he met Kathleen Wizeman; they were married on July 4, 1953, at St. Anne's Church in her hometown of Palmyra, New York. They settled in Cincinnati, working for General Electric, then Dayton before eventually moving to the Brookville area, where they raised five children. Mervin worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance and then Price Brothers Construction, but his main career was with DAP in Fairborn, where he served as a quality control manager for eighteen years.

Several years after retiring, Mervin and Kay moved to Troy, where they were members of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Troy.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Kathleen (Wizeman) Lewis; daughters Barbara of Upper Sandusky; Dorothy MtCastle (Wade Flory) of Brookville; Catherine (Ken McFarlan) of Oak Harbor; Jennifer (Brian Chrestoff) of Tipp City; son Richard (Don Harp) of Bloomington, Indiana; seven grandchildren: Tim (Jani), Angela (Brian), Morgan, Elizabeth, Kristina (James), Jillian and Chelsea; and numerous great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by his sisters Evelyn Nolan of Naples, Florida; Sheri Lewis of Wrightwood, California; Judith Kaltenbach of Chillicothe; and brother Lawrence (Kathey) Lewis of Sun City Center, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Donald, Paul (in infancy), Thomas, and Robert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 1, 2014 in Troy, with interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:00 AM – 12:00 Noon at Baird Funeral Home, Troy. Arrangements will be handled by Baird Funeral Home of Troy. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.bairdfuneralhome.com.
