Corporal in the 2nd Maryland Regiment during the Revolutionary War. Andrew Meloan lived in various places, including North Carolina, before moving to Montgomery County, Kentucky in the early 1800's. He remained there until 1827, when he and a group of other residents including the Utterbacks, Caldwells, Farrows and a few others moved to Calloway County, Kentucky. The land on which Murray City Cemetery now sits originally belonged to Meloan and he is said to have been the first burial there in what is now the oldest part of the cemetery where no markers have survived.

His many descendants included Utterbacks and Caldwells. His daughter, Permelia Meloan, married Robert Caldwell. They were the parents of Rachel Ozier Caldwell who married Harrison Peyton Utterback. Andrew was married to Rachel Ozier who had previously been married to John Zillerfrow.

Meloan reached the rank of Corporal during the Revolutionary War and fought in many well known battles. He was present at Yorktown when Cornwallis surrendered. He was an aide to general Benjamin Harrison (Father of William Henry Harrison and great-grandfather of President Benjamin Harrison)who, on behalf of George Washington received the ornate ceremonial surrender sword from General Sir Guy Carlton who represented Cornwallis. Meloan was entrusted with the sword for 24 hours before it was returned to the defeated commanding office. While in charge of the sword, Meloan removed a very small diamond from the hilt and kept it as a memento of the occasion.
