John M Sullivan was born at the "Time of the Big Wind". What we would call a hurricane today. Alot of lives were lost that day. He came to the United States in 1863, arriving in New York with his brother, Michael on July 14th aboard the steamer ship "Sidon". They went through the Emigrant clearing depot at Castle Gardens. They found jobs, sent for their sister, Ellen in 1865. John left new York by 1868 for Plymouth Rock, Iowa where he applied for citizenship. He married Sarah Dagan in 1869. He was granted naturalization in Iowa on Sept 30, 1870. They moved to Fillmore Co. MN. in Canton. They moved to Blue Earth MN on Sept 26, 1898. They had children:

John M Sullivan died at his home in Jo Daviess Twp, Oct 28 at the age of 67. Death resulting from heart failure. (Death registry says death caused by Anemia ) Funeral services were held Tuesday morning from the Catholic Church in Blue Earth. Rev Father Murphy conducted the last rites. A Wife and 11 children morn the loss of a loving husband and kind parent, for the deceased was a model man in the home. He was a real neighbor, a splended citizen.He was dangerously ill days before he passed but was conscience till the end.
