In the steady gaze of the horse shines a silent eloquence that speaks of love and loyalty, strength and courage. It is the window that reveals to us how willing is his spirit, how generous his heart. ~ Author Unknown

Our Uncle Pete, the son of Intidab and Diablo's Secret, was foaled in the State of New York. He was then sold at the OBS in Ocala, Florida. Pete began race training and he was off! He started racing at Aqueduct Racetrack in New York; then was sent to Penn National in Pennsylvania.

Despite his excellent breeding (some of the best known names in racing are in his blood line; Secretariat was his great granddad), Pete was not a racehorse at heart. He was more of a kind of happy go lucky guy. After three years of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, Pete was brought home.

Pete excelled at life on the farm. He was more like a puppy trapped in a horse's body. He would follow you anywhere. If he could have hopped in the car to go for a spin, he would have. He enjoyed his groceries. He knew the sound of candy being unwrapped. He tried so hard to please. Everyone loved Pete and he loved everyone.

Pete most definitely had the "look of eagles" and his royal blood lines showed. He would gaze out over the pastures about sunset. I think that was his favorite time of day. He was a dark bay with dapples. At certain times of the year, his muzzle would lighten and then go back dark.

Pete became severely neurologic and after vet calls, blood tests and x-rays, the most difficult and heartbreaking decision was made.

Rest easy, my friend. Your race is now over. I know that you'll be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge for me and when I get there, I'll ride in style.

The love for a horse is just as complicated as the love for another human being...if you never love a horse, you will never understand. ~ Author Unknown
