World's Ugliest Dog. Gus a pedigree Chinese Crested, was rescued from a bad home after his adopted family in Gulfport, Florida, learned he was being kept in a crate inside someone's garage. He had cancer, no hair, one leg amputated because of a skin tumor and lost an eye in a cat fight. On June 20, 2008, Gus was crowned winner of the 20th annual World's Ugliest Dog Contest in Petaluma, California. His new success made him a national news headliner and he appeared on television programs to include CBS This Morning. Gus' owner had used the prize money from the contest and personal appearances toward the dog's radiation treatment.
