TWO DESTROYER ESCORTS LAUNCHED AT YARD
HINGHAM, MASS., (AP)--The last two destroyer escorts that will be built at the Hingham shipyard of the Bethlehem Steel Company for nearly a year were launched here last night.
The USS BELET, honoring Master Technical Sergeant Robert Alfred Belet of the U.S. Marine Corps who was killed at Guadalcanal, was christened by his widow of Newton, New Jersey.
The second craft, the USS RAVEN, commemorating the late Lt. (jg) Julius Arthur Raven of New York City, a naval aviator who lost his life when his plane went down in the Aleutians area, Aug. 9, 1942, was sponsored by his widow, a member of the Women's Army Service Pilot's training program at Avenger Field, Sweetwater, Texas.
