JOSHUA STOCKSTILL (W/ Mary Lavina Knight)

Birth: 1768 in 30 MILES E. OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND
Death: 1832 in HANCOCK CO., MISS.

Joshua served in the Maryland Militia as a Drummer Boy. He was at Yorktown, VA, when Genera l Cornwallis surrendered to Gen’s Washington and Lafayette ending the Revolutionary War in 1781. In 1800, he immigrated to the new state of Tennessee. When the war of 1812 broke out, he enlisted in the army of Gen. Andrew Jackson and was with him at the battle of New Orleans. January 8th, 1815, marching with Jackson's Army back to Tennessee surveying and cutting the old Jackson Military Highway from Madisonville, LA, to Mussel Sholes, Alabama. Eloped with a fourteen-year-old girl (Mary Knight, from Nashville, Tennessee) to Mississippi and settled near Homerville, Pike County, Mississippi.
