F. W. DeMars, Lumberman in Early Days, Dies
Fred W. DeMars, 73 years old, 933 Fleming street, died Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Alpers. He was born Jan. 13, 1870 in Norton township, Muskegon county, where he lived until he was 21 years old. At that time he moved to Cedar City, until 1908 and after living in Traverse City for some time, came back to Muskegon in 1938. On July 20, 1891 he was married to the former Johanna Letshutz in Brunswick. Mrs. DeMars died in 1938. Mr. DeMars was a retired lumberman. He was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic church. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Fred Alpers of Muskegon; two sons, Roy E of Hartford, and Ralph A. of Muskegon; 7 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Joseph Martin of Holton, Mrs. Jacob Host of Muskegon and Mrs. Frank Barbier of Flint.
