Lucille's full name is Delcie Lucille. She was known by her middle name, Lucille, or just Lucy to family.
She is the daughter of Dolphus Self and Flossie Watson Self.

Their names are,
Randy Lynn
Tresa Deaun

& Tracy Gale

Lucille is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Minnie Wade, two brothers, an un-named infant and Rylee Watson.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, neices and nephews and many friends.
Surviving also are five sisters, Mary Ellen Young, Georgia Brown, Rhoda Vaughn, Opha Daniels and Daisy Lyons, one brother, Roy Self.

My memories of my aunt Lucille are of when the family would come to the country where I grew up for their summer vacation.

I always thought she was such a beauty. So dark and pretty. She had a laugh that made you think she was trying to hold it back but when it finally broke the surface she would laugh 'til tears ran down her face. I can remember her laughing like that and when she'd finally get her breath she'd wipe her eyes and say, "Oh my goodness."
As I sit here and type this, it's almost as though she is standing at my shoulder saying those words in my ear. It has been years since I've even thought about her using that phrase and just out of the blue I hear it in my mind. I can still hear exactly the tone of her voice when she'd say that. Come to think of it, that was one of her most often used phrases.

She was mommie's sister and she married daddy's brother so we were always close and enjoyed the time we got to spend with them when they visited in the summers.

One of my formost memories of my aunt is that me and my brothers and her oldest son and daughter would 'swipe' one of her Raleigh cigarettes, a kitchen match from where ever we happened to be, sneak outside and go somewhere and smoke it. We'd all usually get sicker than little dogs, but the next chance we got, we'd do it again. I can remember how everything would spin after smoking her 'cigs' as we called them. We never got caught, but looking back, I'm sure the grown-ups had to know. They surely smelled it on us. But we thought we were getting by with it all along.

One of aunt Lucille's daughters told me this evening that she'd been pretty much in a coma all night last night and not responding to anything or anyone. She told me that late this evening about 4 pm, aunt Lucille opened her eyes, looked up at the corner of the room, smiled, then peacefully slipped out of this world to be with her sweetheart of more than 51 years. My cousin told me this evening that they'd all agreed that aunt Lucille was smiling because uncle Doc, their dad, had come for her.

She is so loved and will be missed...

Songs sung at her service... 'How Do I Help You Say Goodbye' & 'When I Get Where I'm Going'

When I get where I'm going
on the far side of the sky
The first thing that I'm gonna to do
is spread my wings and fly
I'm going to land beside a lion
and run my fingers through his mane
or I might find out what it's like
to ride a drop of rain.
When I get where I'm going
there'll be only happy tears.
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
and I'll leave my heart wide open,
I will love and have no fear.
When I get where I'm going
don't cry for me down here.

...from aunt Lucille's obituary card...

To Those I Love

When I am gone release me, let me go
I have so many things to see and do.

You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears
be happy that we had so many years.

I gave you my love, you can only guess
how much you gave to me in happiness.

I thank you for the love you each have shown
but now it's time to travel on alone.

So grieve awhile for me if you must
then let your grief be comforted by trust.

It's only for ahile that we must part
so bless the memories within your heart.

I won't be far away, for your life goes on,
so if you need me, call and I will come.

Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near
and if you listen with your heart, you'll hear
all my love around you, soft and clear.

And then when you must come this way alone
I'll greet you with a hug and a 'Welcome Home'.

Sunshine fades and shadows fall,
But memories of you outlast them all.
Unseen, unheard, you're always near,
Still loved, still missed, still very dear.
