Folk Figure. Bandit was the world's fattest raccoon. Born with a bad thyroid gland, Bandit was adopted by a dog and raised as one of the animals puppies. He was later taken in by a woman who lived in Palmerton, Pennsylvania. The raccoon who liked to eat extensively enjoyed anything from chips, froot loops, cheese curls, to french fries. By 1999 Bandit weighed 52.5lbs, and by 2001 he weighed 64.4lbs, and then gradually pushing upwards to 70lbs. Known as a 'junk-food crazed critter', Bandit was awarded a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1999, and was featured numerous times as a guest on the Cable Television station, the Food Network. Bandit was also featured on a British radio show, and could drink ice cream through a straw. In May 2004, Bandit's weight caught up to him (he was 75lbs), as well as an early sign of cancer on his side, and he had to be euthanized at the age of 10.
