Army Sgt. James D. Faulkner, 23, of Clarksville, Ind.; assigned to the 20th Engineer Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; killed Sept. 8 when his military vehicle hit an improvised explosive device in Baghdad. He was a native of Jeffersonville, IN, and a graduate of Clarksville High School, class of 1999. He attended Ohio Falls United Methodist Church and was part of the B Company, 20th Engineer Battalion, 1st Calvary Division in Fort Hood, TX. He earned several honors with the United States Army, including the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medial and an Army Service Ribbon. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Pamela and Greg Gilkey of Clarksville; father, James Faulkner of New Albany, IN; three sisters, Dottie Neal of Clarksville, Kathleen Kaszubski of Brunswick, MD, and Heather Faulkner of Clarksville; stepsister, Jamie Gilkey of Louisville; two brothers, Jason Faulkner and Patrick Faulkner, both of Clarksville; step-grandparents, James and Kathleen Gilkey of Louisville; two nieces; one nephew; and his fiancée, Lisa Moreno of McAllen, TX.
