California Governor. He served as the 32nd Governor of California from 1959 to 1967. The patriarch of one of California's most prominent political families, after serving as San Francisco's district attorney, he was elected the 23rd California Attorney General in 1950 and served two terms in that office. His son, Edmund G. "Jerry" Brown Jr. served terms as the 34th and 39th Governor of California from 1975 to 1983, and from 2011 to 2019.
