His music has been performed on six continents. A composor, conductor, musician, and professor, Taylor was on the faculty at Los Angeles Pierce College in Woodland Hills, California for 39 years and lived in Whittier, California.

Rowan S. Taylor's name is honored with inclusion in an amazing number of disquinguished Who's Who type publications and professional organizations. Highly regarded as a professor, www.gradeyourprof.com showed him graded fifth highest among the professors in the United States (March 2001).

He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War as a Chaplain's assistant to Rabbi Chaim Potok, now a world-famous author. Potok's novel Book of Lights, an autobiographical account of his experiences in Korea, includes Taylor as the character Roger Tat. Potok credits Taylor with saving his life at least twice.

Passionate about music since childhood, Taylor was the first recipient of the Southern California Conductor's competition for high school students in 1945, at which time he won a scholarship to Interlochen, Michigan. He also won a scholarship to Brigham Young University. "Brother Taylor" was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He received his B.A. and M.A. from Brigham Young University and studied three additional years at UCLA.

In his youth Taylor played string bass under famed conductor Leopold Stokowski (Disney's Fantasia), Thor Johnson and Nicolai Malko. He studied composition with Lukas Foss, Leroy Robertson, Leon Dallin, Carl Fuerstner, Crawford Gates, and John Vincent.

A thoughtful man who treasured his family, Rowan Taylor considered his greatest achievement to be his wife, Priscilla Anne Pulliam, to whom he had been married for forty-eight years. His posterity includes nine children (one deceased), twenty-four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Rowan was the son of Hugh A Taylor and Mary Lucille Olsen Taylor Gaenger. Rowan is laid to rest beside his son & his wife's family.
