Brous graduated with his medical degree from the Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia in the class of 1877-78.
In the graduating class of 203, Brous was the only student from Kansas. The subject of his thesis was Malarial fever.
Brous set up his medical practice at 521 Vine Street in that city. Married in 1897, he returned to Manhattan, Kansas in 1900 and was living with his elderly parents in the 1900 Census. He practiced medicine in Manhattan, KS until his death on May 10, 1906 at the age of 55.
