---The maker of the universe reached down and took unto himself one of La Plata's outstanding religious and civic leader in the person of Waldo Roland Cull. He was called from home Saturday, April 2, 1949 at 7:45 P.M. after a brief illness.
---Waldo Roland, son of James Thomas and Emma LaFrenz Cull, was born March 9, 1898 on a farm five miles east of Wyaconda, Missouri. He graduated from Wyaconda High School and attended the University of Missouri.
---He was married to Grace Kasiske August 13, 1933 and to this union one son, Roland Dexter, was born.
---They moved to La Plata in 1934 having purchased what is now Cull's Market.
---Waldo united with the Zion Methodist Church at the age of nine and he transferred his membership to the Church at La Plata in 1934. His entire life was dedicated to his Master's Work. He was teacher of the young people's Youth Fellowship Class in the Sunday School, was both Stewart and Trustee on the church Board and served as counselor for the M Y E. He was never too busy to attend a church meeting.
---In the community he took an active part in the Masonic and Eastern Star Lodge, was chairman of the Executive Board of the Boy Scouts and was a member of the La Plata Board of Education at the time of his passing.
---He was always a friend to young people, extending advice and a helping hand to the many who came under his influence.
---He leaves to mourn his passing, his devoted wife, Grace and his son, Roland, of the home; also his invalid mother, Emma Cull; one sister, Velvah Holycross and one brother, Delbert Cull, all of Kansas City, besides a host of relatives and friends.
---Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church in La Plata Monday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. Gregory Poole, assisted by Dr. E. S. Havinghurst of Moberly.
---Sacred numbers were sung by the quartet composed of Dr. Gillet, Earl Green, Rodney Collins and Billy Daniel, accompanied by Eva Pash; Organizations with members attending in a body were the Board of Education, the Masonic Lodge and Boy Scout Troop 23.
---The girls of the M Y F were flower girls. Body bearers were George Herschel Bowen, Charles Blackwell, Billie Morrow, J. D. Dull Jr, Travis Mikel and Gene Grear. Honarary bearers were the members of the school board, Elvin Bragg, W. C. Walden, Dr. Gillet, Erbie Wilson and Merle Miles, also the secretaries of the board, Dr. E. P. Adams and Paul Wilgus.
---Near relatives who came from a distance to attend the rites were Mr. Cull's brother, Delbert Cull, his sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. V.S. Holycross, all of Kansas City; Mrs. Cull's sister, Miss Bess Kasiske of Springfield, Illinois and her brother and wife, Dr. and Mrs. Walter B. Kasiske of Louisville, Kentucky.
---Host of friends and relatives came from Wyaconda, Missouri, Bushnell, Illinois, Burlington, Iowa and Memphis, Missouri. At least six hundred persons, many of whom stood outside the church through the service, filed past the casket to pay their respect to one who had been their friend in his life.
