Actor. Born Harold Hochstein, with his sculpted features, he worked steadily from the 1950s through the 1970s, often portraying the villain. He debuted on Broadway in 1939 and made his film debut in "The Blue Dahlia" (1946). He appeared in about 30 films, including Alfred Hitchcock's "The Wrong Man" (1956), "The Harder They Fall" (1956), "Spartacus" (1960), "The Greatest Story Ever Told" (1965) and "Which Way to the Front?" (1970). In over a 150 television appearances, he received an Emmy nomination for his performance on "The Nurses," an CBS drama (1964), "My World and Welcome to It," (1969-70) and "Bridget Loves Bernie," (1972). He retired after his final film, "Hardly Working" in 1980. Cause of death, natural causes.
