Silvie

Silvie was found stuck between walls in my sister's house. Unknown how she came to be there. My sister, who is hearing impaired heard a kitten crying on and off for three days. She tried to locate the kitten but was unable to tell where the crying was coming from. She called my husband and he discovered the kitten was stuck between walls in a bedroom closet. As soon as he cut a hole in the wall Silvie came stumbling out. Silvie was so tiny, maybe three weeks old. My sister is not a cat person and she is a single working mother so she had no time to devote to a baby kitten that had to be fed from a bottle.

I decided to take Silvie, we started calling her Silvie because she was a beautiful silver color. Her coloring changed as she grew older, more the coloring of a Siamese cat. She was also cross-eyed. Her veterinarian told me that she was part Siamese and being cross-eyed was at one time common for Siamese cats which was mostly bred out. He joked about her needing glasses.

Silvie was intelligent and extremely vocal, would come running when she was called answering me with her meows. She was very playful, loved playing with her toys. Whenever she heard the doorbell or a knock at the door she would run to the door and wait until the door was opened to see who was there. She tried opening the door but I kept the door locked so she was unable to open it. Silvie loved sleeping on my lap when I watched t.v. and at night she slept in bed with me.

Silvie was an entertaining cat, always up to something, causing us to laugh. Being a disabled person, I spend much time at home alone and she brought me much comfort and joy.

I blame myself for Silvie's death. If I had been paying close attention to her health, I would have realized that Silvie had lost some weight. By the time I noticed, she was sick and it was too late to help her. Even though I took her to the vet for her yearly check-up, he didn't catch anything wrong with her nor did I. Every time I think of Silvie or see her picture, my heart breaks.

It took me four years to write her bio. Every time I tried to write something I would break down and cry and still as I write this four years later I am crying.
