Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was mustered in as a Sergeant in Company E, 71st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on May 28, 1861. He was wounded in his left side and killed on July 3, 1863 as his regiment was helping to repulse the famous Pickett's Charge.

He was original buried on the grounds of the Peter Frey farm lot on Taneytown Road in Gettysburg. His remains were recovered and interred in Mount Moriah Cemetery on July 30, 1863.
