Promoted to Full 1st Lieutenant.
Promoted to Full Captain on 26 Jan 1863. (2)
Capt. Hugh Alexander. Company G. 109th Regiment Pennsylvania. Recruited from Philadelphia. Promoted from First Lieutenant January 26, 1863. "mis. since Dec., '64." Recruited: May 8, 1862.
June 9, 1873 Admitted - Hugh Alexander
Capt Co. G 109th P.V. Suffering from nervous prostration. (1, page 292)
Died June 10, 1873 Hugh Alexander, see above. Died this morning from Epileptic Convulsions (1, page 292)
Listed on 1874 Lot Map (Section 133, Lot 115, grave no. 55) but not in modern cemetery office records. He is also missing from an 1892 list of those buried here. On March 11 - 12, 2009, I located Grave lot no. 55. Instead of a grave, I found a distinct square-shaped depression and a headstone stating "U.S. Soldier."
Alexander was apparently reinterred elsewhere between 1874 and 1883 when the U.S. Soldier monument was erected at this spot. This monument was subsequently stolen and recently recovered.
Or it is very possible that he was never buried at Mount Moriah cemetery at all. His death certificate states he was buried at Odd Fellows cemetery on June 12, 1873.
